The Farrant Singers are coming to Fontmell Magna!

Published: 11 April 2022

After two years of Covid and cancelled events…

“See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.

Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come…” (from Song of Songs)

Yes, the Farrant Singers are coming to Fontmell Magna on 5th May to sing to you at 8pm in St Andrew’s Church.

The Farrant Singers is the longest-established chamber choir in Salisbury, where it occasionally sings the services in place of the Cathedral Choir. The choir regularly visits villages in Wiltshire and Dorset to take music out to the community and accepts bookings for weddings and funerals.

They will be performing a programme based on the theme of light – bringing perhaps a sense of hope after the dark time that we have all had over the last two years. Entitled Hail Gladdening Light, the programme is based on the theme of light and will include works from sixteenth century Italy and plainsong, to twenty-first century England and America. It will feature works by Byrd, Holst, Bach, Palestrina, Whitacre and also the State Anthem of Ukraine arranged for chamber choir.

Proceeds will aid funds to improve the accessibility of the church and refreshments including wine will be available after the performance.

Tickets are available from Fontmell Magna Village Shop, at the Shaftesbury Tourist Information Centre or by phone from David of Bedchester on 01747-811176.

I look forward to seeing you there,

Best wishes
