Collyer's Brook, Fontmell Magna
Published: 21 July 2025
We’re providing a brief update on the planned works to stabilise the grassy bank along Collyer’s Brook. These works are currently on hold due to regulatory matters involving the Council and the Environment Agency.
Following a visit from Dorset Wildlife Trust, we’ve been advised to leave the edges of the brook’s bank to grow naturally for the time being. Our grounds maintenance contractor has been asked not to mow these areas, and we kindly request that residents avoid disturbing them. Signs will be placed on site shortly to help communicate this.
The Parish Council continues to liaise with local residents, conservation groups, and other relevant organisations to collect information and review the options available before progressing to ensure the best solution is adopted.
As it stands at the moment, we have two options, one is to build a wall and the other is to take a more natural approach. In any event we remain committed to a collaborative and thoughtful approach to try and improve stability and prevent further erosion.
A further update and discussion of next steps will take place at the upcoming Parish Council meeting on 16 September 2025 at 6:30pm unless anything changes in the meantime. We would urge all those interested to attend or to email the clerk. Additionally, if you have any questions, observations, or historical knowledge please contact the Clerk (clerk@fontmellmagnapc.co.uk).
